		<description>That&#039;s a great question. You&#039;re referring to the scene in act 1 in which Prospero tells a long story to Miranda and keeps suspecting she&#039;s not listening, even though she insists that she is.

I don&#039;t have an answer for you, but I&#039;m excited to get to work on that scene with the actors, because, of course, we&#039;ll have to come up with an answer. It may just be that he&#039;s paranoid. Parent&#039;s sometimes don&#039;t think kids are listening -- even when they are. Maybe while Miranda listens, she looks out at the sea, imagining what Propero is talking about, but he thinks she&#039;s not paying attention because she&#039;s not looking at him.

Some scholars suggest that he&#039;s casting a spell on her as he talks -- the spell that eventually puts her to sleep. According to those interpretations, the literal meaning of his words aren&#039;t important, but that fact that he keeps repeating himself is. And the fact that he keeps demanding her attention. He&#039;s hypnotizing her.  Maybe we&#039;ll go that way in our production.</description>
